Want to know God’s will for your dating life?

We don’t have a 12-step program, but in the LoveEd video above we do share a secret that might help you find His will in the midst of the madness.

Ready for a deep dive? I wrote an entire eight-part series in our Date Night Advice (#DNA) blog on Knowing God’s Will and here are each of those posts in order:

But if you’re truly serious about pursuing God’s will in your dating life, you want to get a copy of Date Like You Know What You’re Doing: Your DatePrep Guide. It’s chock full of wise counsel on dating. In fact, here’s what one of the best-selling authors of Christian marriage books had to say about it:

“Though the writing style is fun, Date Like You Know What You’re Doing is filled with enough ‘zinger’ nuggets of wisdom to transform your thinking about how to date with God-honoring purpose and Jesus-loving passion.” — Gary Thomas, author of Sacred Marriage and The Sacred Search: What If It’s Not About Who You Marry, But Why?

Want a sample of the book? Here’s just an excerpt about knowing God’s will for your dating life drawn straight from Date Like You Know What You’re Doing: Your DatePrep Guide.

Is God’s Will in the Future?

Many times we believe God’s will is about the future, about where He’s taking us, or more honestly about where we want Him to take us, but God’s will is always—always—about where He’s leading us right now.

God never asks us to follow Him in the future. He asks us to follow Him in the present. Even in your dating life. Especially in your dating life.

Take this moment, for instance. I believe you are walking in God’s will right now as you’re reading these words, even as I am walking in God’s will right now as I type them, praying this book would be daily bread for you on your journey through dating to marriage.

Stop Seeking God’s Will

Spoiler alert: if you determine to seek God’s will, you may still miss it.

No, that wasn’t a typo. If you truly, earnestly seek God’s will you can still miss it.

Because, ultimately, it isn’t God’s will to give you His will. Ultimately, God wants to give us something far greater than His will.

He wants to give us Himself! This means…

God’s will, whether it be in your dating life or any other life pursuit, is less about doing and more about being.

Less about doing His work and more about being with Him.

So stop worrying about God’s will for your future marriage and simply walk with Him in this study as you prepare to date with purpose. Then walk with Him in every relationship that may lead to dating and then in each dating relationship. If you endeavor to follow Him one day at a time, when you will look back, you won’t see what you did, but what He did. And how He led you every step of the way.

If you truly believe God wants to and will guide you in dating, then you can date like you’re called to marriage, without being obsessed with marriage.
