Date Night Advice (DNA) Series: The Porn Posts
Post 1
They ask, “What does the fox say?”
I answer, “Foxes don’t talk, so they don’t say anything.
Except in the land of Narnia.”
But do you know what does talk, even when it doesn’t make a sound?
Porn.
What does the porn say?
I’ve spent considerable time thinking about the answer to that question, trying to deduce what sucked me in, over and over again, in spite of how sucky I felt afterwards; how ashamed; empty; powerless; dirty.
I decided that, like most sins, porn is a pretty good liar.
OK, really good.
Seriously, porn attempts to sell us some fantastic deceptions. (We don’t call them sexual fantasies for nothing.) And for a long time I believed them.
How about you? Have you fallen for any of these porn lies:
Porn says, “I want you!” But it doesn’t even know you.
Porn says, “Consume me,” while it consumes you.
Porn says, “You are powerful,” as it takes it from you.
Porn says, “I’m harmless,” but if that were so, why are there support groups for people who want to stop?
Porn says, “Looking isn’t the same as doing,” as it breeds an insatiable desire to do.
Porn says, “I accept you,” as it destroys you.
Porn says, “Let me take your mind off your troubles,” as it adds to them.
Porn says, “This won’t hurt a bit,” as it sets the trap.
Porn says, “Enjoy yourself,” until you no longer know yourself.
Porn says, “I get you!” As it gets you.
Porn says, “No one will know,” as if you knowing isn’t bad enough.
Porn says, “You won’t get caught,” as it baits the hook.
Porn says, “I understand what you need,” as it intensifies your deepest needs.
Porn says, “A little bit won’t hurt anyone.” Ever heard of sex trafficking?
Porn says, “It’s not like you’ll get addicted,” as it delivers the drug.
Porn says, “I love you,” as it makes you hate yourself.
Porn says, “I know how you feel,” as it deadens your senses.”
Porn says, “You are desirable,” as it makes you feel more and more inadequate.
Porn says, “You deserve this.” And if by that it means “death” then it’s right, but Christ came that you might have life!
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. – John 10:10
Would you like to know that life on a deeper level than you ever thought possible? Determine to kick your porn habit. And, YES, it IS possible. Next week I’ll share a first step in doing just that; along with truth that helped me and others.
However, here are some FANTASTIC organizations that can help you RIGHT NOW! Check out:

DNA: It’s What’s For Dating
Dug this weekend’s DNA? Be a good friend and share with your friends on the social media platform of choice: Instagram, Youtube, Facebook, or Twitter.
The LoveEd discipleship series, Beyond Sex & Salvation, will empower you to prepare for relational success when it counts: BEFORE you fall in love!
It’s NOT for couples, but for any wise individual who thinks they might want to get married sometime before they die. And would like to learn how to better build healthy relationships in the meantime.
Check out all three study guides in our store. You can walk through them on your own, but it’s more fun with friends (that and it kinda makes sense to grow in relational success in actual relationships with others), so consider putting together an FMU LoveEd small group study.
Even better? And ask a rock star married couple you respect to lead it!
